About Theorem Vineyards
Kisha and Jason Itkin, visiting Napa Valley from Houston, fell for the region on repeated trips starting in 2008 and eventually asked themselves whether they should look at real estate. In 2012 they bought a 30-acre Diamond Mountain property that had been the 1880 homestead of Dr. Richard Beverly Cole, California's youngest-ever Surgeon General, adding the neighboring parcel the following year.
The estate's heritage vineyard, planted in 1985 to now-rare Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon, had been so stripped by deer that the Itkins considered tearing it out before consulting winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown convinced them to harvest the scant 1.2 tons that remained, becoming the first vintage of their flagship Voir Dire Cabernet. The Itkins restored the property's historic Victorian home, one of Napa's oldest schoolhouses, and a barn, working with architect Richard Beard to preserve what turned out to be one of the valley's most significant collections of historic buildings.
