Troon Vineyard — Applegate Valley AVA Winery & Tasting Room

Troon Vineyard has undergone a remarkable transformation since Craig Camp took over as general manager in 2017. The historic Applegate Valley estate — one of Southern Oregon's oldest vineyards — shifted to certified organic farming and adopted a natural winemaking approach that has attracted attention from the wine press and a new generation of consumers seeking wines made with minimal intervention.

The variety selection at Troon is deliberately unusual — Vermentino, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah alongside more expected Applegate varieties. Craig Camp argues that Southern Oregon's warm, dry climate is better suited to these heat-loving varieties than the cool-climate grapes that dominate the Willamette Valley, and the wines bear out his thesis.

Troon is one of Southern Oregon's most visited tasting rooms, combining genuine quality with accessibility — open daily without reservations, with a range of wines across styles and price points. The natural winemaking approach means some wines show the idiosyncratic character of wines made without stabilization, fining, or filtration, which is exactly what their growing audience seeks.
