About Two Shepherds
Two Shepherds is a small, natural-wine winery in Windsor, founded in 2010 by William Allen, a passionate Rhone enthusiast and former wine blogger who started as a garagiste with just 175 cases before going commercial. In 2015 his partner Karen Daenen, the self-styled Chief Shepherdess, joined the venture and they moved into their own Windsor facility.
Known affectionately as the insane master of small lots, William makes around fifteen wines a vintage, specializing in Rhone and other uncommon California varieties, Grenache, Grenache Gris, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Picpoul and more, sourced from cool-climate, old-vine, organically farmed vineyards across the North Coast under block-specific lease contracts. The wines are made with a light hand: native yeast, neutral oak and concrete, whole-cluster, unfined and unfiltered, with just a touch of sulfur, and they've earned praise from the New York Times to the Wall Street Journal.
