About Victor Hugo Winery
Victor Hugo is the Templeton winery of veteran winemaker Vic Roberts, whose Central Coast career stretches back to the 1980s and whose label joins his first and middle names rather than the French novelist. From an estate vineyard in the El Pomar District, Roberts built a quiet reputation for honest, fairly priced Bordeaux and Rhone bottlings made in a converted turn-of-the-century barn.
The rustic barn tasting room on Vineyard Drive in Templeton keeps the operation personal, often with Roberts family members pouring, and the wines, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah to Viognier, remain among the area's better values. It is old-school Templeton, unhurried and unpretentious.
