About Violet Vines
Violet Vines pours in the barrel room of its own winery, in McMinnville's Indie Wine District just outside downtown. That is a deliberate choice rather than a stopgap: the tasting happens among the barrels at cellar temperature, around 57 degrees, and blankets are handed out. Part of the flight is drawn straight from current barrels.
The estate vineyard sits in the foothills of the McMinnville AVA at Sheridan, with a second site in the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater over in eastern Oregon. From the 2026 vintage the wines are entirely estate grown; earlier vintages mixed estate fruit with bought parcels chosen for quality. The reserve bottlings carry the Ultraviolet label.
Two things here are genuinely unusual. The first is a seasonal alternative to the barrel room: the Tasting Outlook, set high on the hillside between two vineyard blocks in Sheridan, looking out over the valley to the Cascades, open June to September in decent weather and always by prior arrangement.
The second is what they pour for people not drinking. Alongside the wines there is estate grape juice, a rotating eight-ounce pour of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Syrah served in a wine glass, which is a rare chance to taste the fruit before it becomes wine. There is also an alcohol-removed estate Syrah, which the winery believes is among the first made in the Willamette Valley.
