About Westwood Estate Wines
Westwood Estate Wines is a boutique Sonoma Valley winery built around a single remarkable site: the biodynamically farmed Annadel Gap Vineyard, in one of the coolest, foggiest corners of the northern Sonoma Valley AVA. Wedged between Hood Mountain and the Sonoma Mountains, the windswept, marine-influenced gap, reminiscent of the Petaluma Gap, gives the grapes big diurnal swings, firm acidity and slow, even ripening.
Managing partner Carl Stanton and friends began planting the vineyard in 2001, and by 2014 they were bottling estate wines under an impressive winemaking team that has included Ben Cane, Sonoma legend David Ramey and master vintner Philippe Melka. The focus is world-class, small-lot Burgundian and Rhone varietals, notably three clone-specific expressions of Pinot Noir, plus Syrah, a Chardonnay and the Rhone-blend Legend, crafted with restraint and precision. The wines are acclaimed, one Pinot earning 99 points and a Best of the Best award, and are offered at surprisingly fair prices.
