About Azari Vineyards
Azari Vineyards is a family-owned estate in the Petaluma Gap, the cool, windswept corner of Sonoma that became one of the region's newest AVAs. Kamal and Parichehr Azari, Iranian-American immigrants, found the hillside property in 1988 while showing their young children Sonoma County, and over the following decades turned it into a vineyard estate that many visitors compare to a Tuscan villa. The winery itself dates to 2012, and the next generation of the family now runs much of the day-to-day hospitality.
The estate specializes in small-lot, estate-grown wines and is best known for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Syrah. The Syrah carries a personal resonance, pointing back to Kamal's family roots in Shiraz, Iran, and the Persian tradition of hospitality that runs through the whole place.
Visits are by appointment only, and they are refreshingly informal. Rather than a bustling tasting bar, expect a relaxed sit-down on the terrace, often hosted by one of the Azari sons, with panoramic views over the Petaluma hills, resident dogs underfoot, and a good chance of a fresh wood-fired pizza pulled from the estate's brick oven. It is a personal, unhurried stop built around family and welcome.
