About Blanchard Family Wines
Blanchard Family Wines is a small, personal winery run by brothers James and Mark Blanchard, who grew up so inseparable they were known simply as the Blanchard boys. Their paths diverged for years, James to the Air Force Academy and a career as a military helicopter pilot, Mark into Sonoma County's wine trade, before a shared dream of owning a winery brought them back together. They founded the label in 2007 and today pour it out of an intimate tasting room in downtown Healdsburg.
The wines run mostly to reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec and Merlot, alongside a Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, made in small, hand-crafted lots with an emphasis on doing things personally.
What sets Blanchard apart is the format: every tasting is a private, single-party appointment hosted by Mark, the owner and winemaker himself. Rather than standing at a crowded bar, guests sit down one-on-one for a relaxed walk through the wines, often including barrel samples and a look at the production side, and can even blend their own custom bottle. It is dog-friendly, veteran-owned, and about as far from a factory tasting room as Healdsburg gets.
