About Caldwell Vineyard
Caldwell Vineyard occupies a hillside estate in Coombsville, approximately 600 feet above the valley floor. Hospitality takes place underground within a large cave carved into rock, giving the visit a strong sense of place before the first wine is poured. The estate is known for a diverse collection of Bordeaux grapevine material and for discussing vineyard, cooperage and family history in a storytelling-forward format.
The main Caldwell Vineyard Tasting Experience is currently $130 per guest. It lasts about 90 minutes and includes five estate wines with an artisan cheese-and-charcuterie platter. A separate Joy Caldwell Champagne Tasting costs $145 and presents four French grower Champagnes with cheese and sturgeon dip. The Champagne program is offered Thursday through Saturday and must be booked at least one week ahead; it does not include Caldwell estate wines.
Appointments are offered seven days a week at 10:00 a.m., noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Standard reservations are limited to eight guests. The property gate is open during posted weekday and Saturday hours, while Sunday visitors should obtain a gate code. The winery advises driving slowly on Kreuzer Lane and following signs to the lower parking area near the cave. Current child, pet and accessibility policies should be confirmed directly.
Caldwell is best for visitors who enjoy animated hosting, caves, Bordeaux varieties and a substantial food accompaniment. The regular estate tasting suits guests who want to understand the vineyard and wines, while the Champagne program serves a different interest and should not be used as a substitute for a Caldwell wine appointment. The south-Napa location can anchor a Coombsville-focused day without requiring a drive far up-valley.
Reserve the exact program, save the emailed directions and allow the full 90 minutes. Cave temperatures can be cool even on warm afternoons, so a light layer is practical. Travelers should not arrive hoping to combine estate wine and Champagne flights unless the winery has explicitly arranged it.
