About Chateau Boswell Winery

Chateau Boswell traces to 1974, when Los Angeles dentist R.T. Boswell bought ten acres in the Vaca foothills above St. Helena. The winery itself was built in 1982 with André Tchelistcheff as founding winemaker, and between 2008 and 2010 the estate added an 11,000-square-foot cave, tunneled 25 to 65 feet into the hillside, with a floor inlaid with obsidian stones found on the property.

The September 2020 Glass Fire destroyed the original building and its library wine collection; only a quarter-acre of Cabernet Sauvignon vines survived. Production shifted into the caves while the estate rebuilt, with the first post-fire vintage in 2023 yielding a single barrel. Winemaker Allison Nunnikhoven now works with consulting winemaker Philippe Melka, drawing fruit from Napa Valley, Russian River Valley and Sta. Rita Hills alongside replanted estate acreage.

Only a quarter-acre of Cabernet Sauvignon vines survived the fire that leveled the original 1982 winery building.
