About Farella Vineyard
Frank Farella, a founding partner of the San Francisco law firm Farella Braun + Martel and Robert Mondavi's personal attorney for roughly 30 years, purchased the Napa property in the mid-1970s; the estate's first vintage was 1985. His son Tom Farella, a UC Davis Viticulture and Enology graduate who trained at Preston Vineyards and in Burgundy, served as head winemaker from 1991 to 2018.
The 26-acre estate at 2222 North Third Avenue sits in the southern Vaca mountains east of downtown Napa. Tom Farella was instrumental in establishing the Coombsville-Napa Valley AVA, granted in late 2011, and the property is recognized as the site of the AVA's first Cabernet Sauvignon plantings. About two-thirds of the vineyard is leased to Realm Cellars; Farella reserves roughly a quarter of the fruit for its own roughly 1,500-case annual production.
