About Husic Vineyards
Husic Vineyards was founded by Frank and Julie Husic, who met in 1994 and purchased a 120-acre hillside property in 1995. Vineyard manager Jim Barbour identified three steep, rocky planting sites that were terraced and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997, with the inaugural 2001 vintage (released 2004) placing second in a blind tasting of California cult Cabernets organized by Bonhams & Butterfields.
The property sits largely within, and partly just outside, the Stags Leap District AVA on Napa Valley's east side, with vineyard blocks ranging from near the valley floor to about 900 feet in elevation. Celia Welch served as founding winemaker before Mike Hirby took over in 2010, and the estate keeps production under 1,000 cases in strong years, focused on limited-release Cabernet Sauvignon along with small lots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and dessert wine. Co-founder Frank Husic passed away in early 2024; the winery continues to produce wine at The Caves at Soda Canyon in Atlas Peak.
