About Inglenook

Inglenook is one of Rutherford's most important historic estates, with a château, grand courtyard, underground caves and a legacy that extends from founder Gustave Niebaum to the restoration led by Francis and Eleanor Coppola. The property feels more like an estate compound than a normal tasting room, and the visitor program uses the architecture and history to frame the wines.

Rubicon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blancaneaux and other estate wines can appear across the current tasting program. The Inglenook Experience explores the winery's modern and historic production spaces before a seated flight. Library-focused reservations offer older estate wines with cheese and charcuterie, allowing guests to examine how the property's wines develop over time. The exact vintages and selections depend on availability.

Hosted visits require reservations. The private 90-minute Inglenook Experience begins in the courtyard and moves through spaces such as the Italia Cave, fermentation area and Infinity Cave. More extensive cave-lounge and library reservations may last two hours and require at least 48 hours of notice. The winery requests that all guests be at least 12 years old, making it more restrictive than an ordinary family sightseeing stop.

The château and courtyard create a formal arrival, while the underground areas provide a different view of the estate. Walking and stairs may be part of the experience, so mobility needs should be discussed before booking. The winery is directly accessible from Highway 29, but guests should follow the specific check-in instructions rather than wandering the property without a reservation.

Inglenook is best for history enthusiasts, Cabernet drinkers and visitors who want a guided estate narrative. It deserves more time than a basic tasting and can anchor a Rutherford itinerary. Confirm the age policy, duration, food, library wines and cave access included in the reservation. Short-notice visitors should call the concierge because online availability may not reflect every option.

What Wino Notion Loved

A name reclaimed after decades,Francis Ford Coppola operated the estate as Niebaum-Coppola and later Rubicon Estate before finally buying back the rights to the original Inglenook name in 2011.
Funded by The Godfather,Coppola purchased the bulk of the historic property in 1975 with earnings from his first two Godfather films, decades before completing the reunification of the estate in 1995.
Cask Cabernets that set the standard, under John Daniel Jr. in the 1940s, Inglenook's Cask Cabernet Sauvignons were considered among the finest wines America had yet produced.
"Wino Notion likes the continuity between Inglenook's architecture, history and wines. The courtyard, château and caves give the tasting an estate narrative that feels larger than a single famous bottle or owner."
