About Joseph Jewell Wines
Joseph Jewell Wines is named for the winemaker's first and middle names — Adrian Jewell Manspeaker's Joseph Jewell identity, the personal name combination he places on wines from Humboldt County and the Sonoma Coast's most extreme maritime sites.
The project is perhaps most notable for its Humboldt County Pinot Noir — produced from vineyard sites in the far northern California coastal zone where the growing conditions border on impossibly cool and the resulting wines have a tension and mineral quality that no warmer-climate California site can replicate. Humboldt County wine is a genuine frontier of California viticulture, and Joseph Jewell is among its most serious advocates.
Wine Advocate has scored Joseph Jewell's Humboldt County and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir at 91–94 points, recognizing both the exceptional quality of the extreme-maritime sourcing and Adrian Manspeaker's restrained winemaking approach.
