About Joseph Jewell Wines
Joseph Jewell Wines is a boutique, family-owned label in downtown Forestville, and its founding story starts with a birthday bottle: winemaker Adrian Jewell Manspeaker's fascination began when he splurged on a wine from his birth year and realized every bottle carries a vintage, a place and a story. He teamed up with a friend from Gary Farrell to make a first, garage-made Russian River Pinot that placed second in a blind tasting against far more established producers.
Pinot Noir is the heart of the winery, Manspeaker makes around ten single-vineyard bottlings a year, using native-yeast fermentation to let each site speak, from renowned Russian River, Dry Creek and Sonoma Coast vineyards to the hidden coastal corners of Humboldt County, his family's roots. Chardonnay, Zinfandel, a rose and eclectic small lots like skin-fermented Pinot Gris and sparkling Vermentino round things out.
The Forestville tasting room is sleek but relaxed, and the winemakers themselves sometimes pour. Seasonal experiences include a vineyard tour, and Manspeaker was recently named one of the industry's people to watch.
