About Kobler Estate Winery

Kobler Estate Winery is a small, family-owned winery in the cool, foggy Green Valley of the Russian River Valley, notable for going against the grain: while the region is famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the Koblers built their estate around Rhone varieties. Brothers Mike Sr. and Otto Kobler, with their wives, planted the estate vineyard to Syrah and Viognier in 1996, inspired by the northern Rhone and betting that Green Valley's cool climate and Gold Ridge soils would suit them, and for years top producers like Pax and Donelan bought their fruit.

In 2010 the next generation launched the winery itself, and today Mike Kobler Jr. is owner and winemaker, producing around 1,400 cases across roughly ten small-lot wines, estate Syrah and Viognier, Grenache, other Rhone whites, plus Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a rose. Farming is regenerative and dry, with sheep grazing between the vines.

Visits are by appointment and begin with a stroll through the vineyards with the family, followed by a seated tasting on the patio overlooking the Green Valley hills, often paired with cheese and charcuterie.
