About Lagier Meredith Vineyard
Lagier Meredith is a small, owner-farmed vineyard on Mount Veeder founded by winemaker Steve Lagier (formerly of Robert Mondavi Winery) and Carole Meredith, a UC Davis viticulture and enology professor for 23 years. The couple bought the 84-acre property in 1986, planted the 4.5-acre vineyard themselves in 1994, and released their first commercial wine in 2000.
Farming fractured shale and sandstone soil at about 1,300 feet elevation, the Napa mountain range closest to San Francisco Bay, the estate focuses on small-berry, terroir-driven Syrah from several clones, plus Mondeuse, Malbec and Zinfandel. The founders have said longtime friend and winemaker Aaron Pott will eventually take over the vineyard as they move toward retirement, though the couple continues to run it today.
Steve Lagier and Carole Meredith planted their Mount Veeder vineyard by hand in 1994 and still farm it themselves three decades later.
