About Louis M. Martini Winery
Louis M. Martini Winery is a Napa Valley winery in St. Helena. Founded in 1933 by Italian immigrant Louis M. Martini, one of only five wineries built at Repeal. The Martini family purchased the historic Monte Rosso Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley in 1936, still a source for the winery's Cabernet Sauvignon.
Founder's son Louis P. Martini developed improved grape clones, pioneered wind machines for frost protection, and produced California's first varietal Merlot.

Monte Rosso, the Moon Mountain vineyard the Martini family bought in 1936 and Gallo acquired with the winery in 2002, now has a label of its own. Gallo released the first Monte Rosso-brand wines from the 2023 vintage, made by Bernardino Sani of Argiano in Montalcino with estate director Diego Del Pino. The vineyard holds Semillon planted in 1886, Zinfandel blocks from the 1800s including one planted in 1893, and Los Niños, a Cabernet Sauvignon block Louis Martini planted in 1940 that ranks among the ten oldest Cabernet plantings in California. Ask what Monte Rosso fruit is open when you book, since the vineyard also feeds the winery's own Cabernet.
