Miles Wine Cellars occupies an 1802 Greek Revival mansion on the shore of Seneca Lake, a stately white columned building set among tall trees. The house serves as both tasting room and inn, and the setting is the reason many people come.

The tasting list runs beyond wine to craft beers, ciders and spirits including brandy, vodka and whiskey. Guests regularly single out the owner's knowledge of the property's long history as a highlight of the visit.

Visiting

The winery is accessible by boat as well as by road, with a dock bar and a small cafe by the water that is a genuinely different way to taste. Overnight stays are available at the Inn at Miles in the main building, which has two rooms, the William Miles Suite and Drake's Landing. Dock service depends on space and weather.

Miles Wine Cellars is a member of the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail, which links wineries from Victor down through Canandaigua to Naples.
