About O'Brien Estate
O'Brien Estate is a small, family-run winery on Orchard Avenue in Napa, founded and still run by Bart and Barb O'Brien, who have made their home on the estate for about two decades. The winery is a fully self-contained operation, the O'Briens grow, make, and bottle every wine on their own roughly 33-to-40-acre property, which neighbors vineyard land tied to the historic 1976 'Judgment of Paris' tasting (an adjacent vineyard supplied fruit for the winning Chateau Montelena Chardonnay).
The estate follows a hands-on approach: low-yield, wide-spaced vines are hand-harvested and fermented in small batches, then aged in French oak, with every step done by family. Their red wines, including several Merlot bottlings, have drawn praise from critic Robert M. Parker Jr., and the wines are sold direct-to-consumer only, not through restaurants or retail shops.
