About Paloma Vineyard
Paloma Vineyard is named for the dove — paloma in Spanish, the bird of peace whose flight across the Spring Mountain estate gives the winery its identity. Barbara and Jim Richards chose the dove for a Spring Mountain Merlot estate, declaring their commitment to the peace and elegance that Merlot — properly grown on volcanic mountain terrain — can achieve.
The Spring Mountain estate is one of California's most celebrated dedicated Merlot programs. While Napa Valley's Merlot reputation has been overshadowed by Cabernet, Paloma argues through decades of evidence that Spring Mountain District Merlot achieves complexity and aging potential fully equal to the valley's Cabernet programs. Wine Advocate has scored Paloma's Spring Mountain Merlot at 91–95 points.
