About Paradigm Winery
Paradigm Winery sits on Dwyer Road in the southern Oakville AVA, less than half a mile west of Highway 29. Owners Ren and Marilyn Harris have deep Napa Valley roots -- Ren traces his California lineage to 1769 and descends from a recipient of the Rancho Cabeza de Santa Rosa land grant, while Marilyn's family has grown grapes in the valley since Italian grandparents arrived in 1890. The couple purchased the Oakville property in 1976 and released Paradigm's first vintage in 1991.
The 50-acre, CCOF-certified organic estate is planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel (rare for Oakville), and Cabernet Franc, replacing earlier plantings of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, and White Riesling. Heidi Peterson Barrett served as winemaker from 1991 to 2024, and red wines are aged roughly 20 months in French oak, with the Cabernet Sauvignon held back for an additional 20 months before release. Ren Harris was named 2021 Napa Valley Grower of the Year, and the winery is a member of 1% For The Planet.
Paradigm still farms Zinfandel on its Oakville estate, an increasingly rare varietal choice in an appellation dominated by Cabernet.
