About Pine Mountain Vineyards
Pine Mountain Vineyards sits at the literal top of Sonoma County wine country, on the upper western flank of Pine Mountain about seven miles northeast of Cloverdale, at the heart of the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA, the highest-elevation appellation in the county. Planted between roughly 2,200 and 2,800 feet, well above the fog line, these rugged mountain vineyards see warm, sunny days and cool nights, a wide diurnal swing that yields low-yielding fruit intense in color, flavor and natural acidity.
The estate is devoted mainly to Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, farmed with high-elevation practices tailored to the artisan winemakers and premium wineries the vineyard supplies, with its own bottlings crafted by acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown.
It's worth knowing before you go that Pine Mountain is first and foremost a grower in a remote mountain setting: there is no regular drop-in tasting room, though the vineyard hosts occasional tasting events and offers wine through its club and locally. This is one of Sonoma's most dramatic and least-traveled winegrowing corners.
