About Purlieu Wines
Purlieu takes its name from a French word meaning "the edge of the forest," a nod to its home base in the Coombsville AVA, at the eastern edge of Napa Valley. Winemaker Julien Fayard and vineyard manager Steve Matthiasson source fruit from a roster of respected sites across the valley, including Beckstoffer's legendary To Kalon and Missouri Hopper vineyards in Oakville.
The winery's sister label, Le Pich, takes its name from a Wappo word for golden eagle, birds still seen soaring above the estate's Coombsville vineyards. Purlieu's philosophy centers on balance between innovation and tradition, aiming for wines with the structure to age gracefully.
