About Temecula Valley Wine Country
Temecula Valley is Southern California's most established wine region — a concentration of 40+ wineries in Riverside County, positioned at 1,500 feet elevation where the Rainbow Gap allows cool marine air from the Pacific to moderate what would otherwise be desert-level temperatures.
The region is explicitly resort-oriented. Most visitors arrive for a full wine country experience rather than just tasting — balloon flights over the vineyards, spa treatments at winery hotels, seated dining experiences, and group wine tours are the primary draw. Ponte Family Estate, South Coast Winery, and Leoness Cellars all operate full resort facilities on their property.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot perform best here. The region also produces noteworthy Viognier and Petite Sirah given the warm days and significant nighttime cooling from marine influence through the Rainbow Gap. White wine drinkers often find Roussanne and Grenache Blanc surprising highlights.
