About Saddleback Cellars
Saddleback Cellars is a small, family-run winery at 7802 Money Road in Oakville, founded by veteran Napa winemaker Nils Venge, the first American winemaker credited with a 100-point score from Robert Parker (for the 1985 Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon), who went on to build his own label in Oakville.
The winery has stayed a family affair; the Venge name carries on in Napa winemaking through the next generation as well, though under its own separate label (Venge Vineyards) rather than at Saddleback itself.
Amid Oakville's roster of grand, appointment-only luxury estates, Saddleback has kept a comparatively unpretentious, hands-on tasting-room feel, with Old Vine Zinfandel as a signature alongside its Bordeaux-variety Cabernet Sauvignon.
One of the few Oakville tasting rooms that still feels like it's run by the people who make the wine.
