The property centers on a historic stone barn, built in 1881 by an earlier owner, which the Seavey family restored and converted into a gravity-flow winery when they established the label.

The winery was founded by William 'Bill' Seavey and his wife; Bill Seavey's death was reported by the Napa Valley Register under the headline 'St. Helena vineyard founder William Seavey dies at 86,' confirming both his role as founder and that the family estate predates his passing by many years.
