About Spence Vineyards
Spence Vineyards traces its origin to 1998, when the founders won a vineyard property in a bidding war at a local charity auction, setting in motion a project focused entirely on Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate sits at roughly 1,900 feet in elevation, among some of Napa Valley's most respected Howell Mountain producers, where well-drained volcanic soils and steep slopes give the fruit extended hang time on the vine.
Spence produces vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon built around the structure, dark fruit, and minerality typical of Howell Mountain, and in select vintages also releases a Zinfandel that honors the variety's long history on the mountain. The winery is preparing to open a small, intimate tasting room on-site, giving future visitors direct access to a property whose Howell Mountain character has quietly built a following over more than two decades.
