About Somerston Estate
Somerston Estate was assembled privately in 2007 by three families, combining two historic properties, the 660-acre Priest Ranch, dating to the mid-1800s, and the 955-acre Lynch Ranch, into a single 1,682-acre holding in the eastern Vaca Mountains. Founding winemaker Craig Becker, who began his Napa Valley career at Robert Mondavi Winery before becoming winemaker at Spring Mountain Vineyards at just 23, helped identify and farm 144 individual vineyard blocks across elevations from 800 to 1,650 feet.
The estate produces two labels: Somerston, limited block-designate bottlings from the property's best sites, and Priest Ranch, a larger-production blend showcasing the ranch as a whole, both made in a converted 12,000-square-foot barn. A flock of roughly 300 sheep grazes the vineyard cover crops between growing seasons, and the operation is carbon neutral.
