About Stoney Mesa Winery
Stoney Mesa Winery is a family-owned estate in the Surface Creek Valley near Cedaredge, beneath the southern slopes of the Grand Mesa, and one of Colorado's oldest wineries. Established by the Neal family around 1989, it was the first Colorado winery passed down to a second generation, and it draws on more than 30 years of high-elevation growing experience.
The winery sits in the middle of its 10-acre vineyard on a 50-acre Delta County farm, where the Neals first planted Gewurztraminer in 1990, and it also sources from a Grand Valley vineyard whose vines, planted in 1982, are among the oldest commercial plantings in the state. Its sister winery, Ptarmigan Vineyards, is in Grand Junction. The focus is cool-climate wines, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir, farmed with organic techniques and mostly by hand, and poured in a tasting room with wide mountain and valley views.
Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.
Wine as the product of passion and love for farming, since 1989.
