About The Debate

The Debate is a Napa Valley wine producer, established in 2012. Jean Hoefliger and Rob McKay's 2010 Napa Valley project, built to let different vineyard terroirs literally debate each other in the glass. Co-founded by a Taco Bell heir, Rob McKay, whose family helped build Taco Bell into a national chain, partnered with winemaker Jean Hoefliger to found The Debate in 2010.

Wines built to disagree with each other, rather than pursuing one signature style, The Debate deliberately bottles the same varieties from different sites to showcase how much Napa Valley terroir can vary. A globe-trotting winemaker at the helm, Jean Hoefliger trained in Bordeaux at Château Lynch-Bages and now also oversees winemaking in Italy at Montaverro, alongside his Napa Valley projects.

We have not found a published schedule for routine public tasting at The Debate. The wines are sold direct or through the trade, and any visit would be by arrangement, so contact the producer before planning one.
