About Yellow Car Country Wines
Yellow Car Country Wines is a small tasting room on the main highway through Cortez, in the far southwest corner of Colorado. It sits at 802 S. Broadway, just south of 7th Street on Highway 160/491, the road most travelers take toward Mesa Verde and the Four Corners. The winery's own description of itself is unpretentious: a place to relax, talk to people and take a bottle home.
Tasting is simple. You can order a flight of five wines, a glass, or buy a bottle, and the list covers sweet, dry and in between, so the pour is steered by what you like rather than by a fixed script. Souvenir merchandise sits alongside the wine. Food is easy too: the winery has arrangements with nearby restaurants so you can order in, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks. Friendly pets are welcome if they behave with you and with other guests.
Posted hours are Sunday through Tuesday from 3 pm to 8 pm and Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 pm, which means no Wednesday or Thursday visits are on the schedule. The evening hours make this a good stop after a day at Mesa Verde rather than a morning one. Allow about an hour. Confirm current hours, fees and reservation policy with the winery before you go.
