Amuse Bouche Winery is named for the amuse-bouche — the French culinary term for the chef's complimentary first bite, the small portion served before the meal begins that announces the kitchen's philosophy and whets the appetite for what follows. Heidi Barrett's Napa Valley Merlot-dominated blend is declared as this first bite: a wine that announces what wine can be before the conversation about wine even properly begins.
Heidi Barrett is one of California's most celebrated winemaking consultants, having made wines for Screaming Eagle, Bond, and numerous other cult Napa Valley estates. Amuse Bouche is her personal project — a Merlot-dominated blend from Napa Valley vineyard sources that reflects her own winemaking philosophy rather than a client's brief. Wine Advocate has scored Amuse Bouche's Napa Valley blend at 93–96 points.
