About Beaucanon Estate
Beaucanon Estate is named from the French for 'beautiful canyon' — beau canyon, the topographic feature on the Rutherford property that gives the estate its identity. Jacques de Coninck's Belgian-heritage winery carries French aesthetic values into Rutherford's most productive Cabernet Sauvignon appellation: the beautiful canyon as a declaration of the landscape's visual quality alongside its viticultural character.
The Rutherford Bench estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from estate vineyards that benefit from the alluvial fan terroir where the Mayacamas Range's mineral-rich soils drain onto the valley floor. The 'Rutherford dust' mineral finish that André Tchelistcheff identified as the appellation's defining characteristic is present in Beaucanon's estate Cabernets.
Wine Spectator has scored Beaucanon's Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon at 89–93 points, recognizing the quality of the benchland sourcing.
