About Bell Wine Cellars
Anthony Bell, a South African native with a viticulture degree from Stellenbosch University and an enology master's from UC Davis, founded Bell Wine Cellars in 1991 after 15 years as director of winemaking and general manager at nearby Beaulieu Vineyard. The current Yountville property previously housed Plam Cellars before Bell purchased it in 1998.
Bell is known for introducing Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon, a loose-clustered Bordeaux clone dating to the Gold Rush era, as a single-vineyard, single-clone bottling in 1991, one of the first of its kind in Napa Valley. The estate's 6 planted acres grow Chardonnay, Merlot and Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon, with total production around 15,000 cases a year.
