About Blenheim Vineyards
Blenheim Farm's history runs deep: a 1730 land patent, a snowbound visit from Thomas Jefferson and his wife Martha, and a Gothic Revival cottage built by Speaker of the House Andrew Stevenson that now sits on the National Register of Historic Places. The modern chapter belongs to musician Dave Matthews, who designed the timber-frame winery building with craftsman William Johnson; completed in 2000, it uses reclaimed timber, glass floor panels over the cellar, and enough natural light to skip summer electricity.
Winemaker and general manager Kirsty Harmon has run the operation since 2008, farming 32 acres across four vineyard sites, Blenheim, Claim, Deer Ridge, and Sea View, planted to everything from Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to Grüner Veltliner and Albariño. The wines are 100% Virginia grown and made with a minimalist, low-intervention approach; Matthews still paints the labels for the annual Painted Series.
