About Blankiet Estate
Claude and Katherine Blankiet spent three years hunting for hillside ground before buying 47 acres on the western slopes of the Mayacamas near Yountville in 1996, former Domaine Chandon land, directly west of Dominus Estate, that had never been planted because the terrain was so difficult. Sixteen acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot now grow in volcanic ash soils across a puzzle of microclimates. The first vintage arrived in 1999.
Few Napa estates farm this obsessively: misting systems for heat spikes, roughly ten miles of shade cloth in high summer, and an 85-foot optical sorting line that admits only phenolically ripe berries. Fourth-generation Napa winemaker Graeme MacDonald leads production of about 3,000 cases a year, all unfined and unfiltered, sold almost entirely through the estate's allocation list.
