About Black Stallion Estate Winery

Black Stallion Estate Winery occupies a genuinely storied corner of the Silverado Trail. In the 1950s this was the Silverado Horseman's Center, a 32-acre equestrian complex built by Richard Tam and Ben Hardister that featured an indoor riding track, 36 horse stalls, a half-mile race track, a stallion breeding center, and an outdoor arena whose grandstand seated 3,000. The center thrived into the 1990s, and its legacy survives in more than the name: the original indoor riding track building still stands directly behind the tasting room, where it now houses the winery's production cellars.

Exclusive Estates Wine Group purchased a portion of the property in October 2005 and opened the winery in July 2007. Today Black Stallion is owned by the Indelicato family of Delicato Family Wines, whose California roots go back to 1924, when Sicilian immigrant Gaspare Indelicato planted his first vineyard in Manteca. The winery sources fruit from vineyards across Napa Valley's appellations for a wide varietal range, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to Albariño and Malbec, with the Bucephalus Red Blend and Transcendent Cabernet Sauvignon at the top of the lineup. Wine club members receive complimentary seated tastings, and terrace and private group formats are offered.

The riding track that once hosted prize horses now shelters the wine cellars, a rare piece of Silverado Trail history you can taste inside.
