About Buehler Vineyards
John and Helen Buehler purchased their Howell Mountain-area property in 1971, releasing their first commercial vintage in 1978 from hand-crushed grapes that yielded 700 cases. The winery is still family-run, now overseen by son John Buehler Jr. and grandson Jonathan Buehler; past winemakers include Heidi Barrett, who worked at Buehler from 1982 to 1988 before her Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle years.
The 300-acre property is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and dry-farmed Zinfandel, with Chardonnay sourced from Russian River Valley, Sonoma County since 1995 because the estate itself runs too warm for that variety. Annual production is around 60,000 cases, and the winery remains closed to walk-ins, hosting visitors only by appointment for tastings or combined tasting-and-tour experiences typically led by family members.
