About Buccella Wines
Bill and Alicia Deem, Pennsylvania landscaping-company owners who fell for wine country on their honeymoon, founded Buccella in 2002, taking the name from the Latin for 'mouthful.' They began with about 200 cases made at custom-crush facilities, moved into their own south Napa winery in 2006, and grew to roughly 1,200 cases of plush, richly textured reds from contracted vineyards across the valley.
Winemaking passed through notable hands, Mark Herold, then Celia Welch, then Rebekah Wineburg, across a compact lineup of two Cabernet Sauvignons, including Cuvée Katrina Eileen, a Merlot and the Rhône-styled Mixed Blacks blend, sold by mailing-list allocation with by-appointment tastings. The Napa Wine Project reports 2020 as the final vintage amid financial problems, and while buccella.com still sells the 2020s, the brand appears to have wound down.
