About Cakebread Cellars
Cakebread Cellars is a family-founded Rutherford winery with a hospitality program broad enough to serve first-time visitors, collectors, food enthusiasts and groups traveling with younger family members. The property remains closely associated with the Cakebread family while offering a polished range of seated tastings, focused flights and private culinary programs. Reservations organize the entire visit; this is not a walk-in tasting bar.
The portfolio extends well beyond the winery's widely recognized Chardonnay. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot and limited wines allow the tasting team to create several different educational paths. Guests can reserve a broad introduction or choose a focused Chardonnay, Cabernet or library experience. The variety makes Cakebread particularly useful when members of a group prefer different styles.
Current reservations include a Classic Tasting, Courtyard Tasting, Reserve and Library Tasting, Chardonnay comparison, Cabernet comparison and food-and-wine pairing. A separate Family Tasting is scheduled in the morning and is designed to include guests under 21, who attend without a wine-tasting fee. Private cooking classes, group tastings and wine dinners can be arranged directly. Every format has its own duration, price and age policy.
The Rutherford property includes gardens, winery spaces and indoor and outdoor hospitality areas. The atmosphere is refined but not theatrical, keeping attention on the wines, family story and food program. Pets are generally not permitted inside; limited outdoor pet access is tied to specific member areas rather than the standard visitor experience.
Cakebread works well for travelers who want clear choices and reliable hosting. Select the experience before arriving rather than assuming it can be changed at check-in. Families must book the designated Family Tasting, and outside food or picnics are not allowed. Confirm current prices, group limits and dietary accommodations, especially when a culinary pairing or private meal is the main reason for the visit.

Three generations, still family-run,sons Bruce and Dennis Cakebread joined in the late 1970s and continue to lead the winery their parents founded, now farming estates across Napa, Carneros, and Anderson Valley.
"Wino Notion likes how clearly Cakebread separates its experiences. Visitors can choose a broad introduction, concentrate on Chardonnay or Cabernet, book a serious food pairing or reserve the specific family format instead of forcing every group into one tasting."
