About Clos Pegase Winery

Clos Pegase has returned as a visitor destination after a major restoration, giving travelers a renewed opportunity to experience one of Calistoga's most recognizable combinations of wine, art and postmodern architecture. The Michael Graves-designed winery uses bold forms, courtyards and dramatic interior spaces rather than the rustic barn or château style found elsewhere in Napa Valley. Art remains part of the identity, with gallery areas and sculptural details integrated into the property.

The winery's portfolio includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and other wines connected to its Napa Valley and Carneros vineyard sources. Current tasting formats range from an introductory hosted flight to more detailed tours or private appointments. Because the visitor program was relaunched in 2026, experience names, operating days and inclusions are still especially important to confirm on the live booking calendar.

The official visitor page currently lists hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and offers reservations for tastings, tours and events. Recent reopening information has shown changing schedules, so travelers should not rely on an older directory listing for the days of operation. The estate can also offer more casual outdoor bottle service in designated areas, but that should not be presented as unrestricted picnicking or guaranteed walk-in access.

Clos Pegase is a strong choice for travelers who want architecture and art to contribute meaningfully to a winery visit. It also adds variety to a Calistoga itinerary dominated by mountain Cabernet or traditional stone estates. Guests should leave time to see the restored spaces rather than treating the stop as a quick tasting bar. Confirm whether the reservation includes a gallery walk, cave access, outdoor seating or only a seated flight.

What Wino Notion Loved
Visit pending, based on winery profile & reputation
An architecture competition judged by SFMOMA,96 design teams competed for the commission, won by celebrated postmodern architect Michael Graves, whose only Napa Valley building this remains.
Named for a painting, not a place,Clos Pegase takes its name from an Odilon Redon painting of the mythical winged horse Pegasus, part of founder Jan Shrem's personal art collection.
Restored after a bankruptcy sale, the Adair family bought the estate and spent years restoring Graves's building to its original colors, reviving the winery's founding tradition of showcasing working artists.
"Wino Notion likes that the restored Clos Pegase once again gives Calistoga a winery where architecture and art are central to the visit. The property offers a visual counterpoint to traditional estates while still providing a practical range of tasting formats."
