About Lithology
Lithology was founded in 2014 by Argentine entrepreneur Alejandro Bulgheroni, who built his fortune at the oil and gas company Bridas before assembling an international portfolio of wine estates across Argentina, Italy, France, Uruguay, Australia, and California. He bought a 13-acre St. Helena property from Bill Harlan of Harlan Estate, a site whose stone winery, built in 1975 by Jim and Nina Talcott, had once served as the founding home of Harlan's own Promontory and Napa Valley Reserve projects.
Winemaker Matt Sands has overseen every Lithology vintage since 2015, working alongside consultants Philippe Melka and Michel Rolland to craft single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from storied Beckstoffer sites including To Kalon, Dr. Crane, and Las Piedras, poured at the estate's stone winery on Meadowood Lane.
