About Luna Vineyards
Luna Vineyards is named for the moon — luna in both Spanish and Italian, the celestial body that governs tides, influences planting calendars in biodynamic farming, and provides the night's light. The moon's influence on vine growth and wine character has been recognized in agricultural traditions since antiquity, and Luna Vineyards' choice of the moon as its naming declares an alignment with the lunar rhythm that governs the wine's agricultural cycle.
The Silverado Trail estate was established in 1995 with a specific focus on Italian varieties in Napa Valley — Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, and Merlot as the primary program. The Italian-variety focus in a Cabernet-dominated appellation was a deliberate statement: Napa Valley's warm climate and excellent soils can produce Italian varieties as compelling as the Bordeaux varieties that define the region's national reputation.
Wine Spectator has scored Luna's Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese at 87–91 points.
