About Mesa Winds Farm and Winery
Mesa Winds Farm and Winery is a 36-acre organic farm, winery, and farm-to-table restaurant just outside Hotchkiss, perched at the base of the West Elks Mountains in the North Fork Valley. Owners Angelina Rice and Dan Matuszak farm at 5,800 feet, among the highest vineyards in the Northern Hemisphere, with panoramic views of the West Elks to the east and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to the south.
The farm blends six acres of grapes with fourteen acres of peaches and apples, all grown organically, and the winery leans into that bounty with estate wines, a peach wine, and hard cider. The on-site restaurant is the draw as much as the wine, with a small, ever-changing menu built around the day's harvest and cocktails made with local fruit. The owners are usually on hand to talk wine, food, and farm life, and Bear, the resident Great Pyrenees, greets guests on the patio.
Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.
A high-elevation farm and kitchen where the wine and the plate are both grown here.

Wines change with each vintage
Mesa Winds makes estate wine from its own high-elevation grapes alongside a peach wine and hard cider, and pours other local vintners too. The 36-acre organic farm also grows peaches and apples. Offerings rotate with the seasons.

Tasting & Farm Table
Sip estate wines and local pours on an outdoor patio with views of the West Elks and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, then stay for a farm-to-table meal that changes with the harvest. Fresh organic peaches, apples, and table grapes are for sale from the farm in season, and Bear the Great Pyrenees is on duty.
