About Mountain Spirit Winery
Mountain Spirit Winery is a family-owned and operated boutique winery nestled in the high country of Colorado's Upper Arkansas Valley near Salida. Opened in 1995 by Terry and Michael Barkett, it sits on five acres of farmland with apple orchards and an old homestead house, framed by 14,000-foot mountain vistas.
Winemaker Andrew Ritchie and the Barketts, who bring backgrounds in clinical medicine, laboratory technology, and computer science to the craft, have earned more than fifty national and international awards while continuing to explore new blends. The apple orchards feed a lineup of grape and fruit wines, including a well-regarded apple ice wine, alongside an oak-aged Chardonnay and a Riesling-Chardonnay blend, many produced in small lots and available nowhere else. The winery has two tasting rooms, a small counter beside the tanks and barrels at the winery itself, and a newer gallery space near Salida on U.S. Highway 50 with Mount Shavano views, rotating local art, and the family-run Twisted Cork Cafe next door.
