About Nine Suns
Nine Suns is named for the Chinese myth of the ten suns — the ancient legend in which ten suns existed simultaneously, scorching the earth until the archer Hou Yi shot down nine of them, restoring the balance that allowed crops to grow and civilization to survive. The single remaining sun is the one we live under; the nine that fell are the sacrifice that made the world habitable.
Applied to wine, the name carries both the Chinese cultural heritage of the founding family and the mythological framing of restraint: nine suns removed, balance restored, the conditions created for exceptional viticulture. Spring Mountain's volcanic soils and dramatic diurnal temperature swings require exactly this balance — the heat of the day balanced by the cool of mountain nights.
Wine Advocate has scored Nine Suns' Spring Mountain and Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon at 92–96 points, recognizing both the quality of the mountain sourcing and the distinctive Chinese-mythology perspective the estate brings to Napa Valley's luxury Cabernet conversation.
