About Outpost Wines
Outpost Wines is a Howell Mountain estate founded in the late 1990s by Frank Dotzler, planted on the mountain's elevated, largely fog-free vineyard sites above the Napa Valley floor. The property is now part of AXA Millésimes' international portfolio of wine estates, which also includes Bordeaux's Château Pichon Baron and Hungary's Disznókő.
The winery describes its mission as realizing 'the full potential' of its Howell Mountain vineyard and building 'a living history of vintages with immense character and a true sense of place.' Outpost has been known historically for old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache grown on the mountain's volcanic soils.
