About Pellet Estate

Please note: Pellet Estate is not open to the public. It does not offer tastings, appointments, or regular tours; its wines are sold direct to consumer. This profile is provided for reference and history rather than as a visitor destination.

Pellet Estate is a small-production Napa Valley label with deep roots in the valley's winemaking history. Its namesake, Henry Alphonse Pellet, was one of Napa's earliest commercial winemakers - the second after Charles Krug - making wine from the 1859 vintage. Born in Switzerland in 1828, Pellet came west during the Gold Rush before settling in Napa Valley, and in 1863 purchased 45 acres south of St. Helena where he planted his Manzanita Vineyard.

Today the estate produces limited-production wine from the heritage Pellet Vineyard in St. Helena, with a flagship Cabernet Sauvignon (roughly 90% Cabernet with Merlot and Petit Verdot) plus small amounts of Estate Merlot and a Chardonnay from the Petaluma Gap. Those interested in the wines should contact the winery directly, as there is no tasting room to visit.

Stopped at the border with French vines in his trunk, John Pellet Estate ate the receipts, Napa now calls them the Pellet Estate Clones.

Book the caveVisits are by appointment only, two hours long, at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm, for up to eight guests.
Own cooperageBarrels are made on site by master cooper Ramiro Herrera, the winery says it is one of just eight in the world with in-house cooperage.
Deep libraryThe online shop runs to roughly 300 lots, with Silver bottlings back to 1999 still available.
"Wino Notion likes that Pellet Estate turns the cave, vineyard diversity and family storytelling into a full 90-minute experience rather than a basic flight. The separate grower-Champagne tasting is distinctive, provided visitors understand that it is not an estate-wine program."
