About Poggio Leano Winery

Poggio Leano is the wine and olive oil project of Temecula restaurateurs Alex and Charity Prestifilippo, rooted in Alex's native Sicily, where family members still tend Syrah and Grillo vineyards, and grown locally on roughly 45 acres in nearby De Luz. The estate line spans reds like the Cabernet Sauvignon from the first vines Alex planted in 2003, Aglianico and the Vossia blend, alongside extra virgin olive oils and balsamic that anchor the tasting experience.

The winery's home base on Ynez Road operates as a tasting room by day and an upscale lounge by night, with hand-crafted spirits and live entertainment on evenings later in the week, blending the family's restaurant pedigree with its winemaking. A small number of bottles are imported directly from Italy, including a sparkling Vernaccia Nera from San Gimignano, keeping the list authentically Italian at both ends.

In 2025 the family added Alex by Poggio Leano, a strikingly styled tasting room at the gateway to wine country on Avenida Biona, surrounded by sunflowers and strings of bright umbrellas that evoke southern Italy. Olive oil tastings are poured at its white marble counter, with the wines themselves available at the family's Temecula restaurants, Gourmet Italia, Bottega Italia, Spuntino Pizzeria and The Bar Next Door, and at the lounge while county permitting for on-site wine tasting is completed.

A real Sicilian threadFamily vineyards near the Sicilian coast and imports like a San Gimignano Vernaccia Nera keep the Italian connection genuine.
