About Pope Valley Winery
Pope Valley Winery dates to 1897, when a local blacksmith built a gravity flow winery in the remote valley over the ridge east of Howell Mountain. It is one of Napa County's oldest surviving winery sites, and today it pours in that same backcountry setting, a world away from the Highway 29 crowds.
The drive over from St. Helena is part of the visit: quiet ranch roads, oak hills and a picnic-friendly historic property at the end. Napa Valley rewards a plan: many rooms book out on weekends, and midweek visits are calmer. Confirm current hours, tasting fees and reservation policies with the winery before you go.
